HealthPartners just announced they are closing eight clinics on August 31. They are also reducing services and ending primary care at University Avenue Clinic/Health Center for Women in St. Paul, and no longer offering midwifery services in Minneapolis. They are also cutting mental health services and drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs.
This will take jobs away from dozens of OPEIU, SEIU and other health care workers-and hurt the communities they serve. This is no way to treat our Local 12 members and the people they care for in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. Once again HealthPartners CEO is putting profits before the people who work for them and the people they take care of.
It is especially hard to believe at this time-just a month after George Floyd’s murder by the police, and the protests that swept our state and country-that HealthPartners wants to close the Riverside Clinic. Located in the heart of the Cedar-Riverside/West Bank neighborhood of Minneapolis this clinic serves one of the most racially diverse neighborhoods in our state, and its workforce is one of the most racially diverse in the HealthPartners system.
Please join your other OPEIU Local 12 members and help send a message to HealthPartners CEO Andrea Walsh by signing the petition in opposition to these clinic closures. Please also encourage your co-workers to sign. Here is the link to that petition:
