OPEIU Endorses Hillary Clinton for President

New York, NY (March 9, 2016) – The Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU), AFL-CIO, today announces its endorsement of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election for president of the United States.

“Our country’s chief executive should be someone who is experienced in both domestic and foreign affairs and someone who understands and prioritizes the needs of working families,” said OPEIU President Richard Lanigan.  “Hillary Clinton has this experience and the OPEIU Executive Board has determined that of all the candidates, she is by far the most qualified to lead our nation.

“We urge our members to make sure to vote in all primaries and to work as volunteers on her historic campaign to get out the vote,” he continued.

OPEIU’s 103,000 members represent a cross-section of America’s workers, both employees and independent contractors working in administrative offices, hospitals and medical facilities, hotels, and in the fields of nursing, insurance, higher education, transportation, among other industries.

The Executive Board carefully considered the candidates’ position on key issues of importance to OPEIU members before making the decision to endorse Clinton, chief among them rebuilding the labor movement through labor law reform and protection of workers’ right to join unions, income inequality, raising the minimum wage, retirement security, student loan debt, and the need for campaign finance reform.
