“How am I supposed to pick my favorite art piece? They’re all like my children!” As we wind along the halls of the Minneapolis Institute of Art, we’re surrounded by diverse and beautiful works of art from some of the biggest artists and some lesser known ones as well. OPEIU Local 12 members and MIA employees Leslie Ory Lewellen, Joe Doherty, and Debra Hegstrom navigate with ease through the second floor. As we walk, they brag with huge smiles on their faces about how the collection at the MIA is over 90,000 pieces and talk about all the exciting exhibits to come. Union Members at the MIA keep the museum running smoothly by doing every kind of work at the museum one could conceive.

The 2019 O.P.E.I.U. Local 12 election is underway. A secret ballot election for the offices of
President, Vice President and two (2) Executive Board seats is being conducted by mail. Ballots
for this election have been mailed to members in good standing on 2/21/2019. The ballots were
mailed to members’ most current home address O.P.E.I.U. Local 12 has on file on. If you do not
receive a ballot, please call the office at 651-639-1212 to make sure we have the most up to date
address for you.

If you are missing the instructions, a ballot, a return envelope, a secret ballot envelope or if you
spoil a ballot, you may request a new ballot by contacting Election Chairperson, Stefanie Olson,
at stefanie1213@hotmail.com. If you request and return another ballot, only the replacement ballot
will be counted.

Please find the rules and regulations for the 2019 OPEIU John Kelly Labor Studies Scholarship, Howard Coughlin Memorial Scholarship and the Romeo Corbeil/Gilles Beauregard Summer Camp.

The deadline for the scholarships and the Romeo Corbeil/Gilles Beauregard Summer Camp is April 30, 2019. 

The OPEIU scholarships are a great benefit for OPEIU members and their families.

Article X: Nominations and Elections

Section 2: No member shall be elected or appointed to an office in or as an Executive Board member of this Union unless he/she has been a member of this Union in good standing for at least the preceding twelve (12) months in a unit under Contract with O.P.E.I.U., Local #12.
