Contract Negotiations Update and Upcoming Bargaining Unit Meeting on 11/22/2021

IMPORTANT NOTE:

AN EMAIL WAS SENT TO ALL LOCAL 12 MEMBERS AT HEALTHPARTNERS ON MONDAY INVITING YOU TO A ZOOM MEETING WITH THE BARGAINING TEAM ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 22ND AT 7:00PM TO GET DETAILED UPDATES AND ASK QUESTIONS AND DISCUSS NEGOTIATIONS WITH THE BARGAINING TEAM.  PLEASE SEE YOUR EMAIL FOR THE REGISTRATION LINK.

Since bargaining began, Local 12 members have been meeting and getting much done in the negotiation process. Both the employer and the union have come to some tentative agreements, dropped a few proposals, and offered counters. Of the proposals the Tentative agreements we have are include:

19.08 Trial Period. The employer had asked for an extension in the trial period when a member moves to a new location. We felt that it was fair the way it was. Counters were given back and forth and ultimately, we agreed to the 60 day for a move to the same job title and 90 to a different job title. The change to the current language is minimal. In turn, the employer agreed to drop the proposal for 20.11 to extend the trial period for a member who was displaced. We could not agree to this proposal because in this instance the member was placed in this job not by choice but because of a layoff.

Statement to HealthPartner’s Management from Local 12 Bargaining Team Member Sue Kolias regarding their Opening Proposals:

Hearing your proposal last week was very disheartening.

Regarding the healthcare proposal, it is so geared towards a business standpoint to bring in more business vs care for the employee. Members live around the entire Metro area; however, HealthPartners does not cover the entire metro area. A lot of the northern suburbs are not covered. Using myself as an example, the nearest HP clinic is 20+ miles away. The nearest hospital 30+ miles away. If an emergency were to happen, I wouldn’t be brought to all the way to an HP hospital. They wouldn’t pass by 2-3 hospitals to take me to an HP hospital.

When COVID hit we all stepped up to keep the company going. People working in the clinics risked their own health to care for the community. People moved to working at home took on a financial burden by using or purchasing their own computer equipment, furniture and supplies. The arrival of COVID is yet another example where we stepped up. It is time for HealthPartners to step up and show appreciation.

The Local 12 Bargaining Team’s Responses to HealthPartner’s Proposals.

Hello Local 12 Members at HealthPartners!

This week, the Local 12 bargaining team continued the process of contract negotiations with HealthPartners.  After working through the Employer’s proposals last week, we gave a comprehensive response to almost all their proposals on October 26th.  There is a PDF included in this post labeled “Local 12 Responses to the Employer Opening Proposals October 26 2021”, that includes HealthPartner’s proposals and the Local 12 bargaining team’s response in PURPLE below each proposal.  Also included are several opening statements made by members of the bargaining team to management prior to giving our responses.  Further updates, including HealthPartner’s responses to our proposals and more of our opening statements will be posted in a separate update.

In Solidarity,

The Local 12 Bargaining Team for Negotiations with HealthPartners

Team Members: Betty Jones, Mary Brown, Kelsie Anderson, Sue Kolias, Heather Neil, Peg Ledel, Donna Schnegelberger, Connie Brown, Stefanie Olson, Nile Mills, Andrea Crist and Janell Kelly.  With Local staff support from Traci Murphy, Molly Thul, and Lance Lindeman.

Contract Negotiations with HealthPartners has Begun

Contract negotiations between OPEIU Local 12 and HealthPartners began this week.  On Tuesday, October 19th, the Local 12 bargaining team and HealthPartners exchanged proposals and on Thursday, October 21st, the Local 12 bargaining team spent time going through the proposals from HealthPartners, working on our responses, etc.  We will be back in negotiations with HealthPartners on Tuesday, October 26th.

In this post, you will find the proposals that the Local 12 bargaining team presented to HealthPartners, these were presented to the HealthPartners membership at the meeting we held on October 12th as well, and were created based on survey feedback from all of you, other issues and concerns, etc.  You will also find the proposals from HealthPartners management, and we urge you all to read through it carefully so all of you know exactly what HealthPartners proposed.  While not surprising, the proposals from HealthPartners are extremely disappointing and the Local 12 members on the bargaining team felt disrespected and insulted to receive these, especially given everything the members at HealthPartners have been through over the past few years.  The Local 12 bargaining team is prepared to fight these proposed changes and health insurance increases that will be detrimental to our members, and the more members we have standing together in solidarity the stronger we will be.
